The annual day of love is almost upon us. With under a week to go to spoil that loved one in your life, we thought we would help you out with some great tips on what to do. If the wining and dining thing has gotten a bit old for the both of you, we have found some different ways to show love this year. Silvasale will be hosting a Valentine’s picnic under the stars on Saturday 11 February. This “From Paris with Love” themed picnic will be hosted on the lawns of the club. Spend the evening visiting the various food stations and interacting with the chefs who are whipping up the delicious French cuisine. The French street-styled fare will be accompanied by the smooth sounds of Edith Piaf. Tickets are R395 per person and includes a welcome drink, the evening’s meals, a caricature picture of you both and the live entertainment. Bookings are essential.
This is for those couples who like to do things a bit differently. True Romance will be screened at The Bioscope independent cinema in Maboneng. The cult classic, True Romance, directed by Tony Scott and scripted by Quentin Tarintino is not your usual romance flick. So if you and your loved one have a more tongue in cheek kind of humour, this is definitely for you. This Valentine’s Day tradition will be showing for three days, 13th, 14th and 15th of February and the show starts at 7.30pm. Make sure to also pre-order one of the pizza’s to add that extra bit of pizzazz to your night. The show on its own is R50, and depending on which pizza you order, ticket prices go up to R135.
If you are in the mood to treat your better half to something a bit more low-key, the Walter Sisulu Gardens will be opening their gates on the night of love. Pack a picnic basket, chill a bottle of bubbles and get don’t forget to pack the blanket. What better way of spending a night than staring into each other’s eyes under the starry Highveld sky. The garden will close at 21.30pm, and tickets are R50 per person.
If you are finding yourself on the other end of Johannesburg, the Riversides Farm Village is hosting a movie screening and picnic experience on V-day. There will be a double screening to tug at the heart strings and you can have your choice of what to peck on from the various food trucks. If you would rather be totally prepared, you can request a pre-packed picnic basket for two when you book the tickets. Tickets start at R120 and make sure to bring some extra money for the cash bars.
If a night of absolute glam is what you are in the mood for, look no further. The Turrfontein Racecourse will be hosting a night of racing, dinner and dancing in honour of love. The night at the races will kick off with a glass of sparkling wine as you arrive and the racing will keep you hooked till dinner. The price includes a four-course meal and a bottle of wine per couple. For only R295 per person, this is a gorgeous way to spend an entertainment-filled night.
